Mar 31, 2013 - when you listen to early roots you remember music isn't about the external..it's about the internal and letting that out of you to show you what was always there..
Mar 29, 2013 - His debut was Can I Borrow a Dollar and I think you were referring to Resurrection. Well, let's look at Like Water for Chocolate, his 2000 album. Out of 15 songs the only love song is The Light and the instrumentals are excellent, courtesy of Jay Dee and the rest of the Soulquarians. His lyrical content is generally conscious, positive-minded, and promotes universal themes like peace and unity. He was also a great lyricist prior to Be in 2005. He isn't the godfather of pop-rap at all.
Mar 28, 2013 - Hey, I'm a young artist, & I would really appreciate it if everyone would check out my original song, "The Wrong of Right." My song is comparable to reggae-infused chart-toppers like Bruno Mars' "Locked Out of Heaven" & Maroon 5's "One More Night." I promise you that you will not regret giving my original song a listen, & it will truly move you! So please listen & enjoy! Thanks!
Mar 13, 2013 - always making love songs, on some pretty boy beats, only his debut album, was real hip-hop, he may have even kept good beats for a long time, but his lyrical content was always soft
Feb 18, 2013 - One of the dopest Roots tracks of all time. Syncopation, rhythm, and Black Thought continues to stay true to this day... "I shall, proceed, and continue, to rock the mic!"
Jan 19, 2013 - conscious rap was trying to make us black people conscious of knowledge of self and black heritage and history frm Africa the mother land to black history.
Jan 18, 2013 - well take my apologies then i indeed missed the piont, but still ins't conscious rap the rap genre that's just kinda storytelling, light lyrical content without cursing?
Jan 18, 2013 - dude nobody was even saying afrocentric in hip hop back then and there where no title for it back in the late 80's or early 90's tribe de la jungle bro's never NEVER said afrocentric hip hop so plz! that word came out in the 2000's you missed my point back then it was called Conscious Rap!
Jan 16, 2013 - haha ur wack for saying that, stupidest thing i've ever heard "some 2000's ish"
the afrocentric era reigns from 1987 till 1995 with ofcourse having to built up in the beginning and slowly ending, meaning that '94 didn't paint africa all over the place, but the vibe was still there with some support of the fugees and a little bit nas. before these years you only have zulu nation (1980) wich actually is the icon of afrocentric hip-hop. after 1995 i really can't remember anything afrocentric
