Jan 22, 2013 - Sir,
He's not talking about Type-1 Diabetes. Between 90-95% of Diabetics - have Type-2. The therapies/diet that Dr. Barnard is recommending - has been shown (in numerous studies) to quickly help those with Type-2 Diabetes. Unfortunately - there is very little that can be done for Type-1 Diabetes (because the pancreas is no longer able to produce insulin (or as much as is required). Dr. Barnard could not be any more genuine or sincere,
Sep 25, 2012 - To quibble over whether it is accurate to call a program that causes all symptoms of diabetes to end a "cure" or not is missing the point. What difference does it make to the person who had the disease? If you no longer need medication and you are feeling good again -- and tests confirm this -- you are "cured".
All these negative comments strike me as excuses by diabetics that are keeping them from addressing the problem. Why not try Dr. Barnard's program and see if it works for you?
Sep 10, 2012 - You Sir are a fraud for saying there is a cure on your books cover. There is no cure for type one diabetes. You are not in this to help people you are out to make money period. Why don't call your books how to rob people of there money, make false claims and take away peoples hope in man kind. You should beg for forgiveness to God for ripping people off for information that the American government gave you the money to research in the first place. Give the information away freely don't charge.
Jun 9, 2012 - I no longer have to take those pills, thanks to neal barnard:)
As he said, veganism is so easy!
I just regret that I haven't done it before.
Jan 22, 2012 - Also of note. If you compare Barnards vegan diet to low-carb...
A recent japanese study of severely diabetic patients showed a MASSIVE reduction in HbA1c from 10.5 to 7.4 !! This is huge, and vastly superior results to what Barnard's vegan diet showed.
He never tested his diet against a low-carb control, because he knows he'd lose.
Read Dr. Richard K. Bernstein, MD - both a medical doctor AND a diabetic to get some great information on low-carb and treating diabetes properly.
Aug 16, 2011 - @peaceandlove4949: But of course, all these "TV doctors" are selling books...and other items are their web site. I might suggest that everyone IGNORE THESE FAD DOCTORS and talk to a RD (Registered DIETICIAN; not just a nutritionist; dieticians are certified.) There are ones at every hospital. Remember how popular the doctors who hyped the Atkins and South Beach diets were? Now it turns out they were quite wrong. Don't folow fads or product-selling doctors. Read up on your own.
Aug 10, 2011 - you don't need to go vegan to reverse diabetic symptoms...just cut out refined carbs and sugar....have some meat...have some dairy....enjoy your life...don't eat soy crap either. Vegans have an agenda because they bleed for furry little critters....but to tie diabetes to oil and meat products is just lamo and not scientific of course. Any diabetic knows this..it's the high glycemic carbs that are the enemy...not oliive oil and filet mignon. This guy's training is in psychiatry...and it shows.
Apr 19, 2011 - god never show affectionate and forgiveness,he always show a perfect judge.i am having a lot of questions about god,is god a true human or true judge?
Nov 27, 2010 - It's the cutting down on white flour and sugar that makes this program successful, it has nothing to do with the actual Vegan diet...you could just as well reverse diabetes by eating a high fat diet as long as you keep the glycemic index low, and no you won't get heart disease either. Heart disease is an inflammatory chronic disorder, not a fat metabolism disorder.
Aug 29, 2010 - I am a Type II diabetic, and I have always been a skeptic, but I have been following Dr. Barnard's suggestions about eating vegan since last October....and my A1c dropped from 14 to 6.2. I'm in, kids. No one can convince me that veganism has had nothing to do with such a profound drop in these numbers.
Jun 16, 2010 - "You will never see him publicly acknowledge that he was the president of the radical fringe group called People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) as recently as 2003." He wouldn't acknowledge this because it's simply not true. If I'm not mistaken, Ingrid Newkirk has been president of PETA since she co-founded it in 1980.
Jun 16, 2010 - Going vegan has nothing to do with avoiding food groups. Vegans still eat from the "Meat and Alternatives" group, we just only eat the "Alternatives", and same goes for the "Dairy and Alternatives" group. :)
The first group is concerned with protein, which we get from beans, lentils, soy foods, etc. The second group is concerned with calcium, which we get from beans, leafy green veggies, fortified products, etc.
Jun 16, 2010 - Yes, it's a shame... Most people want easy answers, easy solutions. They want optimal health but they don't want to do the planning that is necessary to achieve it.
May 25, 2010 - Another reason to avoid the Vegan Diet is EFA deficiency, primarily DHA/EPA. Plant based Omega3 efa, known as Alpha Linolenic acid has to be converted for your body to use as DHA/EPA, this conversion rate in humans is very low, usually at a rate of 1-4%. Jesus, the saviour of the world ate fish, it should be ok for everyone else.
Mar 31, 2010 - I've been on this diet less than a week and it's already working. I stopped one of my meds 3 days into the new diet and it looks like i'll be going off my last med. Woke up this morning with a great reading without taking medicine. Pick up his book, it's REALLY WORTH IT!! I've also lost a few pounds too and I feel great!!!!! Thanks Dr. Barnard!!!!
