May 1, 2013 - It isn't just their exoskeleton that stops them from getting so big. It has to do with their extremely complex airway system. If they would get huge there would be complications with their breathing (Not only that, but their complex structure would collapse on itself.) If the earths atmosphere was as thick as it was in prehistoric times, insects would be able to withstand the larger size and become much larger than they are now.
